How long have you been a member at 5280 CrossFit?
I began doing CrossFit when I joined 5280 in August of 2015.
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Lakewood, Colorado! I moved to Fort Collins for four years for my undergrad then moved back to be with family and friends.
Are you married, single, in a relationship?
I am currently engaged, and together we have two pups named Barrington (Bear) and Bane. My family’s dog is also still kicking at 17 years old! His name is Brisbane. I still consider him my own.
When you’re not CrossFitting, what do you like to do?
I love to spend time with family and friends! During the summer we like to go boating, hiking, and swimming, and during the winter we like to take our four wheeler to the family cabin.
How do you make time for CrossFit in your weekly schedule? What’s helped you stay committed?
The days I work (as an ER Nurse), I will give myself the day off from CrossFit, giving me motivation and plenty of time to go when I don’t work. I love the feeling of strength and accomplishment after a workout and being a bit sore the day after!!
What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?
I love the smaller classes! I really enjoy the motivation coaches at 5280 give each of us. I have a hard time motivating myself, so having them there to encourage me through the workout and to challenge my personal limits is a huge plus!
Favorite/least favorite WOD or movement?
My least favorite movement is overhead squats. I know they’re great for me, but I definitely don’t love them!
What is your “Goal Board” goal? Do you have any long term CrossFit goals?
I am currently woking on perfecting a pull up and I would also like to accomplish a strict ring dip.
Do you want to share a CrossFit story?
I joined 5280 CrossFit for the purpose of improving my own physical and mental outlook. I had no idea it would have such a dramatic impact on my professional career as a Critical Care Technician in the Emergency Department of the hospitals where I work. Recently, I had a shift that was one of the most challenging so far in my career, both emotionally and physically. I participated in performing CPR on two different patients only a few hours apart. I volunteered to do compressions for both patients, each we worked to save for 40-45 minutes. Anyone who has done compressions on a person knows it is much different than the manikin. As a smaller statured woman, it is very hard to do compressions on a 250lb patient, much less on two patients in one day. CrossFit gave me the strength and endurance I needed to do some of the most effective compressions that day on both patients. I had more than a few people comment on how effective my compressions were that day, despite how tired I might have been. As my career progresses, I’m sure I will see many more of these types of days, and with the functional fitness I gain from CrossFit, I know that I will be able to perform well when physical stamina is called for.
What would you tell someone who is nervous to try CrossFit?
Don’t be nervous! I was nervous when I first started… I had heard a lot of different opinions about CrossFit. I was pleasantly surprised to find this gym is very serious about technique and doing the movements the right way in order to prevent injury. I was also pleased with how nice everyone is! It really feels like a little family.
What do you love about 5280 CrossFit?
I love the camaraderie as well as the individual attention I get every class I attend! My fitness has improved and I definitely feel stronger!]
