When did you begin doing CrossFit? How long have you been with 5280 CrossFit?
I began CrossFit in May of 2016 with the Women’s only Challenge. I have been an active member ever since!
Why do you CrossFit?
I CrossFit now because I can. I love what CrossFit and the 5280 atmosphere has done for my mind, body and soul. I know that no matter what type of day I’ve had, I can go workout and all feels better. Intrinsically, I love how I physically feel on a daily basis.
My past attitude of “I can’t” has changed to ” You never know until you try” and “Why not me”.
Are you married, single, in a relationship? Do you have any children (“furry” children included)?
I’m married and have 4 children (Blended Family). We have 3 girls and 1 boy ranging in age from 25-30.
What’s your favorite thing about living in Colorado?
I love that we have 4 seasons. I moved here in the summer of 1981 for college from California and never went back. Driving to Kenosha pass when the Aspen leaves are changing in awe inspiring. I will never get tired of that sight.
What is your favorite activity to do outside the gym?
My absolute “favorite” thing is spending time with my kids! As they have grown and developed lives of their own, I appreciate each and every moment with them.
How do you make time for CrossFit in your weekly schedule? What’s helped you stay committed?
I schedule my classes every Sunday. I work at The Medical Center of Aurora and my schedule is different every week, so I love the variety of class times. I stay committed because I love it!
What motivates you to keep coming back to 5280 CrossFit?
I am motivated by so many different things. I love what CrossFit has done for body, yet I also love what it has done for my confidence and attitude.
Though I have always believed that age is a state of mind, I certainly questioned that thought when I walked in for my first class. I had a fleeting feeling that I had signed up for something way above my ability. That idea was quickly diminished when I met a group of women (and men) who were also walking in for the first time and a group of coaches who truly cared about each person and their individual goals. I am honored to be part of a group of people that care so much about health and wellness! The encouragement from the group is phenomenal!
What is an activity or adventure that CrossFit has made you better at?
I don’t think there is a specific activity or adventure I can list….pretty darn boring pre 5280.
YET, what I can tell you is that CrossFit has given me the confidence to be more adventurous and try new activities… My First Spartan Race is scheduled for the end of August in Breckenridge. Next is the Warrior Dash in September and then the Festivus Games in October!!
What’s your favorite workout (WOD) or movement?
I love lifting weights! And, while I am lifting weights, I continue to repeat, in my head, I will learn to love running, I will learn to love running:-)
What is one CrossFit goal you are currently working on?
Upper body strength: Pull ups!!
Lower body: Double unders.
What’s your favorite workout song?
I am an 80’s music lover! Play me some: Stray Cats, Tubes, Pretenders, Madonna, REO Speed Wagon, Wham, Lover Boy, Culture Club, Journey… you get the point!
What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting CrossFit?
Take that first step and walk thru the door, you will find an amazing atmosphere, coaches who care, and members who will encourage you every step of the way. There is NO judgment at 5280, only a group of people that will cheer you on, no matter where you start!
Tell us something most 5280 CrossFit members don’t know about you.
I use to show hunters and jumpers (horses) and qualified for the Jr. National Championships when I was 13.
